Prototyping Techniques

Plunging into Prototypes

In the span of ten weeks I created several prototypes for my Prototyping Techniques class (HCDE 451). This journey has tested my ability to ideate, design, and execute prototypes in creative yet realistic manner.

Clay Modeling

This is a multi-functional pet grooming device, which focused on following OXO’s design process and the use of clay modeling. More details here.

Soft Goods

My second prototype taught me how to work with soft goods, where I learned how to sew. I wanted to incorporate upcycling, so I repurposed an old pair of jeans to make this reversible bag. More details here.

Laser Cutting

My third prototype, a topdown recording phone stand, utilized laser cutting and Cuttle: a web-based design platform. More details here.

3D Printing

I created a headphone desk clamp for this assignment, using Onshape to develop the model, and Prusa to slice and print it. While this was my favorite prototype I designed, it was definitely the hardest. More details here.

Video Prototype

This was a conceptual prototype, portraying the use of a product, and the reasoning behind its use. Influenced by “stop smoking” ads, I created one that empathizes with smokers instead of scaring them straight.
